If you like knowing exactly what you're getting, don't mind a little work, and want to stretch your budget further, our As-Traded program might be the right fit.
Shopping for a used vehicle in the Omaha or Papillion area? Most of the pre-owned cars, trucks, and SUVs at H+H dealerships go through a full reconditioning process before hitting the lot. But we also offer a different category called As-Traded vehicles — and they're designed for a specific kind of buyer.
These are trade-ins we make available to the public for a limited time before they would head to wholesale auction. The pricing reflects that they're sold as-is after only a quick safety check. For the right person, that can mean meaningful savings and a vehicle you can make your own.
What Are As-Traded Vehicles?
As-Traded vehicles are pre-owned trade-ins that we offer directly to retail customers instead of sending them straight to wholesale auction.
These vehicles have not gone through our standard reconditioning process. They receive only a basic safety inspection to confirm they run, stop, and drive safely. Buyers receive the vehicle history report and sign a disclosure form acknowledging that the vehicle is being sold as-is. This means it may need mechanical or body repairs now or in the future, and all sales are final.
This approach gives buyers who are comfortable handling some maintenance or repairs (or who work with a trusted mechanic) the chance to purchase at a more competitive price with full transparency about the vehicle’s condition.
Why Some Omaha Drivers Choose As-Traded Vehicles
Here are the main reasons buyers opt for these vehicles:
You Save Money Up Front
Because we skip the full reconditioning, repairs, and detailing that go into retail-ready vehicles, As-Traded units are priced lower. That difference stays in your pocket — or you can use it to handle the exact work you want done.
Full Transparency From the Start
You know the deal going in. The history report is provided, and you review and sign a disclosure form that clearly explains the as-is condition. There’s no guesswork about whether something was “fixed up” for the sale. This works especially well if you have a trusted mechanic or feel comfortable evaluating vehicles yourself.
Great for DIYers, Mechanics, and Hands-On Owners
If you enjoy working on vehicles or have a good local shop, these can be excellent opportunities. Common uses include:
- Daily drivers you plan to maintain yourself
- Project or customization vehicles
- Cars for family members who are learning to work on vehicles
- Vehicles you want to flip after addressing needed repairs
More Vehicle for Your Budget
As-Traded pricing sometimes lets you step up to a nicer trim, newer year, or more capable truck/SUV than you could afford in the retail-ready category. You get more features or capability without stretching as far.
You Get First Access Before Auction
These vehicles would otherwise go to wholesale auction where dealers bid on them. Buying As-Traded gives you the chance to purchase directly at a transparent retail price — often before any dealer markup would be added.
Is an As-Traded Vehicle Right for You?
It can be a good fit if you:
- Are comfortable with (or enjoy) vehicle maintenance and repairs
- Have a trusted mechanic or shop you work with
- Want to maximize your budget and are okay handling some work yourself
- Prefer clear, upfront information over a “worry-free” certified vehicle
- Like the idea of personalizing or maintaining a vehicle long-term
You might prefer a retail-ready vehicle if you:
- Want something recently serviced with warranty coverage included
- Prefer not to deal with any immediate or near-term repairs
- Are a first-time buyer or want the simplest possible ownership experience
How to Shop As-Traded Vehicles at H+H
- Look for vehicles marked as As-Traded on the lot or filter for them on our websites.
- Review the vehicle history report we provide.
- Take a thorough test drive — pay attention to how it feels on both city streets and highway speeds.
- Ask our team any questions you have about the specific vehicle.
- Carefully review and sign the disclosure form with a Sales Manager.
- Complete the purchase if it feels right.
If you’re experienced with vehicles, you can also do your own visual checks during the test drive — look for obvious fluid leaks, tire condition, and listen for unusual noises.
